Our Favorite Parks

Tacoma and Pierce County in general, are very kid/family friendly.  That is one of the reasons that we love living here.  We moved up from the Olympia area about 1.5 years ago and love it up here!  We liked the Olympia area too, but there is so much more up here for the kiddos and we are a lot closer to the water.
Because the Tacoma area is so kid friendly, there are tons of great parks.  We spend a lot of time outside and we have hit up most of the parks around the Tacoma area.  I have included a couple random pictures of us at some of the parks this summer and below is the list of our favorites.  Feel free to click the names of each park to learn more info about each of them and maybe we will see you at one of the parks!

  • Chambers Bay Park - Has great views of the golf course and the water.  Has 2 sides to the playground.  One side for bigger kids and the other side is for little kids.
  • Star Center - Newer park with a fun splash pad too!
  • Titlow - Park, with trails, close to water and also has a splash pad!
  • Wright Park - Downtown Tacoma.  Lots of walking trails, a pond, park and splash pad!  Check out the Conservatory up on the hill too.
  • Point Ruston - Right on the water, amazing views and a fun playground.  There is a trail that goes along the water as well and I hear they are adding a splash pad next year! Playground is shaped like a boat and the view while you swing is amazing! If you walk all along Ruston Way you will come across multiple other parks as well that are fun and entertaining!
  • Tot Lot - One of our favorites.  Small neighborhood park with a fun trail that goes around the play area.  There are other random toys, scooters, etc.... to play with as well.  It's all fenced in and fun for kids of all ages.  They also have a small grassy area.
  • Fort Steilacoom - A fun park with tons of green space.  It's also fun to explore the old barns, the pond and walking trails all over the Park.
  • Sunnyside - Our favorite Beach!  There is also a small playground and swings that have great views of the water.
  • Kobayashi Park - Close to our house yet you feel like you are in the middle of the mountains.  A fun river to play in, explore, race toys down the river and there are trails to explore as well.

These are just some of the top parks that our family likes.  We still hit up our small neighborhood park on a quiet evening or some of the parks at the local schools, or ones that have more hiking trails as well.  It just depends on what type of activity you are looking for.  Whatever activity it is, there is an option for it in the Tacoma area.  We sure do love where we live and love that Metro Parks is on top of their parks and what they do!
